Winter Essentials #1 Pockets

Hey! Today I wanted to talk about winter essentials! My great friend has also made a three part series about this topic, the link to her blog is "here"
So I thought I wouldn't stretch myself too far by making three but that I would do a two parter. Short but sweet. So this post will be about pocket essentials for winter, then the next will be about larger items that may go in a bag/rucksack. So let's get started.
My first essential for winter would be lip-balm. Yeah I know boys don't normally carry that sort of thing with them but the cold dries up my lips and so when I smile the skin on my lips sort of crack up and it sometimes bleeds. Lip-balm prevents that. Although I don't use a specific brand, I usually find myself using "PIZ BUIN"
It really moisturises well! I highly recommend buying this! To get your hands on some PIZ BUIN and wave flaky lips goodbye then click "here" to visit their website.

Next is breath spray. I don't always take this with me but I own the "boots" fresh mint breath spray. It tastes amazing and freshens your breath up in a flash. It's also great to hatch out when your with a group of friends and one of them has bad breath then you can whip out the spray and squirt it in their mouth. Anyways it's a good thing to have in your pockets!

Last but certainly not least is the reusable hand warmer pouches. They can be very helpful on a cold day. Keeping your hands toasty during winter is definitely an essential. These hand warmers come in a variety of colours and shapes: blue squares, green rectangles, red hearts, and yellow stars, much like multi-coloured marshmallows. But unlike marshmallows, these are not for internal use! Also unlike marshmallows, they are self-activating, so you can have your warm on-the-go. And they're reusable. We're glad marshmallows aren't reusable.

The magic of these hand warmers is in the metal disc you see inside it. All you do is click the disc back and forth a few times and you'll see the clear-ish gel inside become opaque. As the opaqueness spreads, so does the heat! It's a crazy chemical reaction which I like to call AWESOME! The gel is a supersaturated solution and bending the disc starts an exothermic crystallization of the gel (Translation from nerd to English - it goes opaque and gets hot). And when it loses its warmth, all you have to do is wrap it in a towel and place it into boiling water for about 5 minutes and it resets itself (the crystals completely liquefy). Once it cools off from its boiling bath, it is ready to be used again. A great, fun way to keep your fingers warm this winter. They work great in pockets but just don't sit on them! (Otherwise it's going to be a soggy butt for you!)

So this was a pretty long long blog post but I hope you enjoyed! (If your still reading) Part 2 will be coming soon! Have a happy winter!

Looking Good For Christmas

Hey! So it has recently just come to my attention that at Christmas, many people will be taking pictures. Some of which, will be of you, and looking good for them is hard when a large outbreak of spot gets in the way! So today I wanted to share my zit zapping techniques with you. These tips will hopefully clear up those nasties before Christmas!
No not as fancy as this!

Barn Owls Tips On Spot Removal:

#1 Wash your face regularly - Yes, I'm guilty, I struggle with this one a lot! I mostly just forget or can't be bothered. Although this tip wont remove the blemishes as such, it
will reduce their prominence on your face and will hopefully stop any more popping up.
#2 With warm soapy water rinse your face, the warm water will open your pores and the soap will wash out the dirt. Then without drying your face rinse again with cold water, this will close up your pores, preventing any more bacteria infecting your pores again. When drying your face dab lightly with the towel, don't rub hard otherwise the spots can become inflamed and itchy again! In a hour or two your spots should dry up nicely!
#3 Stay Calm - It has been proven that stress can sometimes cause spots to appear. So just don't get too mad a people ( After all, it is the season to be jolly right?)

So those are my tips for clearing up spots! Hopefully this helped out and that you will be on your way to spot free happiness!

Winter Is Upon Us

Christmas is close and winter is here. Snowy nights with hot-chocolate are always great. What is your favourite part about winter? Tell me down in the comments below! Although winter is great fun and all, what with the snow, sledging, snowmen and snow angels. There can be dangers too! Like slippery Ice and deep snow drifts. As long as you are aware of the dangers then winter is a fun time.
Ice

Snowman! :)

Barn Owls Keeping Warm Tips for Winter:

  • Keep warm! I suggest a double layer of socks to keep your toes nice and warm
  • Wear a warm coat. This may sound obvious but I cannot stress enough how bad it is to have a cold on Christmas. It's bad!
  • Hot Chocolate - A warm drink after a cold trip outside can really help warm up the body, It's also accompanied by a nice taste(Unless you don't like chocolate)
  •  Rice socks. Put a handful of rice into a sock, tie the end (or sew it if you’re good at that sort of thing) and pop it in the microwave for a minute to make a reusable heat pack for your hands!!!
So those are my tips for keeping warm in winter. Remember to enjoy yourself and have fun!
